What are the best R&B workout songs?
The best R&B songs for working out and exercising are the ones that have the same tempo as the type of workout you are planning – fast tempo for high-end cardio, moderate tempo for weight-lifting, etc. Choosing the right tempo of music is very important because your body will naturally move itself at that speed – choose one that is too slow or too fast, and you may decrease the effectiveness of your workout.
Here are some guidelins for which tempos are good for different types of workouts:
- Under 100 BPM: Slower paced workouts and during warm ups and cool downs
- 100 to 130 BPM: Walking and portions of your workout that are a little faster paced
- Over 130 BPM: Higher impact exercise and cardio
- 135 to 140 BPM: Power walking
- 135 to 155 BPM: Jogging
- 150 to 175 BPM: Running
- Over 175 BPM: Fast running and sprinting
Put together your playlist so that the songs will gradually increase in tempo until you reach your optimum speed… and then gradually decrease in tempo at the end of the workout. This will help ensure that you are warming up and cooling down properly. Also, make sure you have enough music to last during your entire workout. You do not want to run out of songs at the end of your workout – this is when you need music the most! Since most songs range in length from about 3 to 5 minutes long, plan on using at least 10 to 12 songs for a 45 minute workout.
Listed below are the top 24 R&B workout songs, in alphabetical order by title. For your convenience, we have compiled the songs in a playlist, making it easy for you to listen to a sample or purchase a song. Additional commentary about each song is provided below the playlist.
